Football – Lausanne-Sport is not yet dead

Thanks in particular to a hat-trick from Amdouni, the Vaudois signed their third success of the season, on Sunday, against a sufficient Servette (4-1). But they are still seven units behind Lucerne.

Lausanne-Sport chose the Lake Geneva derby to clinch their first win of the Alain Casanova era – and of the year. If it does not radically change the data of the problem, this first success of the season against Servette shows in any case that the Vaudois still believe in their slim chances of snatching the place of play-off from FC Lucerne.

For a long time, however, the 6,000 or so spectators present on Sunday at La Tuilière imagined that Servette would, without too many worries, win this fourth and last duel of the season. From the first moments, the Genevans indeed monopolized the ball with the blessing of Lausannois whose main objective then seemed to boil down to delaying the inevitable. A territorial and technical superiority which gave the Servettians the false and always dangerous feeling that victory was going to end up falling into their hands without them having to work too hard.

Rodelin misses himself, not Amdouni

Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t find the opening at first on a gross defensive error from Zohouri which Antunes (5th) did not take advantage of. Then, especially, when Cognat collided with Diaw after having wandered in the middle of a spectator Lausanne defense (12th). In continuity, Zohouri committed a clumsy foul on Valls that Mr. Cibelli ignored, but not the VAR which rectified the referee’s error. The penalty struck by Rodelin was however diverted by Diaw.

And this LS forced to win to continue hoping for a miracle? Nothing, or almost, until one of the Vaudois’ rare offensive incursions resulted in a penalty following a foul by Diallo on Mahou. A supreme sanction that Amdouni did not miss (38th).

Even if Valls then missed a golden opportunity to equalize just before the break, LS started the second half with much better intentions. A metamorphosis that the untenable Zeki Amdouni materialized twice (62nd and 67th). First by deflecting a corner from Kukuruzovic in the right place, then with a precise shot that left Frick without reaction. An addition that young Alvyn Sanches was still adding to five minutes later. Confused, Servette only managed to save honor by Rodelin. A defeat that almost puts an end to his hopes of winning a new European qualification.

With Zurich’s draw against Grasshopper the day before (1-1), Basel had the opportunity to come back to within 10 points of the leader. But the Rhinelanders failed to get rid of Young Boys (2-2) this Sunday. However, they found themselves in the lead twice: when Xhaka scored the 1-0 goal with a superb shot from the right (41st) and when Esposito gave them the advantage in the 71st. Each time, the Yellow and Black have picked up, thanks to Fernandes (61st) and Kanga (78th). Status quo in the standings, therefore: FC Zurich still has a 12-point lead over Basel and 17 over YB (3rd) and Lugano (4th).

Lugano who, opposed to Lucerne in the other meeting of the day, missed the opportunity to settle on the podium. After leading 2-0 thanks to a double from Celar (38th, 56th), the Ticino people collapsed (2-2). Ugrinic reduced the score before the hour mark (59th), then Kvasina tied the two teams at the end of the match (86th).
