The season of John Fust and the LHC is over.

John Fust, what feeling(s) dominate(s) after this elimination, pronounced in overtime, in the 79th minute?

Physically, we gave everything we had. What I hear from FR Gottéron’s coaching staff are compliments. When Christian Dubé tells me that it was an extremely difficult series for them, there is a bit of pride, despite obvious disappointment. But yes, I’m proud of the team. We showed some good hockey. An identity was born in this group.

“Many of our players have played injured in recent matches. I’m proud of them.”

John Fust

What is your analysis of this end of the season?

We saw the rebirth of a team from January. There are a lot of promises for next season. We managed to shake things up, to change the culture, and in the end, very little was needed to make this series longer. It’s not the time to communicate on that precisely, but many of our players have played injured in recent matches. I’m proud of them. It’s not easy to sacrifice themselves as they did for the good of the team.

Sure. In the two overtime losses (note: acts III and V), we had the victory puck at the end of our stick. Afterwards, it must also be said that Friborg deserves its qualification. They made the difference when it was needed.

“We lacked energy. But we still managed to put ourselves in a position to win this fifth game, so that’s no excuse.

John Fust

At 5 against 5, you have not often been the worst team in this quarter-final.

It’s true. And it shows that we built something, that we played good hockey. Unfortunately, the special teams didn’t work in our favor. The power play was decisive in this series (note: 9 successes for FR Gottéron, 2 for the LHC). This is the lesson: we were not able to make a difference in these situations.

There was also this box play, with another 4 goals conceded on Saturday evening.

Yes, but again, you’ll better understand why when you have all the information on the state of form of some of our guys lately. I’m talking about key players, even if that shouldn’t be an excuse for us, because despite that, we managed to put ourselves in a position to win this fifth game.

Who are these players who played while injured?

You will know soon enough. Today, I don’t want the attention to be put on them.

Physically, did you overall pay for the infernal schedule that was yours at the end of the regular season (12 matches in 21 days) as well as your passage through the preplay-off box (in three acts)?

We felt the fatigue, that’s clear. We lacked energy. But I repeat, we still managed to put ourselves in a position to win this fifth game, so that’s no excuse either.

“Who knows, with one more point at the end of the regular championship, things might have been different.”

John Fust

The origin of this fatigue and your passage through the dams are these first two thirds of the failed season, due to casting errors and a lack of binder.

The analysis will be done in the next few days. But to be in the top 6, what did we miss? 0.001 points? Of course we had months to score extra points. But the positive is that we were able to overcome the obstacles and form an identity, with an effective game. Who knows, with one more point at the end of the regular championship, things might have been different.

Will you still be the LHC coach next season?

I want it, I’m a competitor (note: and he is under contract until spring 2023). We will have to discuss it with Petr Svoboda when the time comes to talk about it.
