REVERSE and Giannis Antetokounmpo are back in force!

“It’s terrible, it’s awful. And they don’t care about anything…” Sorry, I just watched The Lion King with my daughter and the lyrics by Timon and Pumbaa seemed to fit, unfortunately, perfectly with what the Lakers came up with that night. LA had a golden opportunity to regain control of its destiny in the fight for the play-in tournament, receiving New Orleans, one of its two direct competitors, all with LeBron James (despite his April Fools’ Day on his absence until the end of the season – Lakers fans must have appreciated…) AND Anthony Davis.

Despite this and despite a lead, even a short one, at the start of money time, the Lakers cracked. LeBron may have slammed 38 points, the Californians ended up on the ground, with some rather hopeless last possessions:

  • an attempted alley-oop at -4
  • a fault far too long to come after returning to -1 at 15 seconds from the end
  • hero ball that turns into LeBron’s airball on the last ball

The Pelicans stayed straight in their boots in the wake of CJ McCollum (32 pts) and Brandon Ingram (29 pts), to now have three wins ahead of Los Angeles and will probably not be taken back.

– History to put a little salt on the wound, the Spurs won on their side by dynamiting Portland with no less than 8 players between 10 and 22 points. San Antonio has 1 win more than the Lakers in the standings with five games remaining.

– The match between Detroit and OKC, won by the Pistons, smelled of baguettes and croissants. No less than four French people participated very actively in this meeting and made great publicity for French basketball in the NBA.

Killian Hayes signed his best career game by beating his NBA points record (26 pts), with 8 assists, 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks at 12/25, to confirm his good recent performances.

On the OKC side, it is Jaylen Hoard which caught the eye. Excellent in the G-League with the Blue, the former Blazer was rewarded with a first tenure in the NBA. He did not disappoint and that’s an understatement, as he grabbed 20 rebounds (!) with 11 points, 3 assists and 2 blocks. The ex-Wake Forest academic is sinking his teeth into the 10-day deal that got him to sign OKC.

Theo Maledonalso in the continuity of very good recent outings, had 28 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks, whileOlivier Sarr came off the Thunder bench to add 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

– The Raptors won’t stop winning and they’ve put the cover back in Orlando, limiting the Magic to 89 points, while distributing the offensive tasks well with 6 players between 11 and 19 points. Toronto is three wins ahead of 6th place and will likely no longer be taken over by Cleveland.

– The Bucks had decided to rest almost everyone for the reception of the Clippers. One can imagine the joy of the people who had taken places for this meeting, without knowing that they would see the Milwaukee C team lose ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THREE (!!!) at 119 on its floor, without extension, nor Paul George in the opposing camp, taking 43 points from Robert Covingtonhis record in the NBA.

– Boston for its part returned to 1.5 length of Miami at the head of the East thanks to its victory in front of Indiana. The flingueurs JayJay compiled 63 points to overcome the courageous match of the Pacers and Tyrese Haliburton (30 pts) stopped in its tracks for 6 faults at the start of the 4th quarter.

– The two best teams in the league this season have had a little warm-up before a possible Conference final in a few weeks. Memphis, though deprived of Ja Morant and Desmond Bane, took the upper hand thanks to an excellent Dillon Brooks and despite Devin Booker’s 41 points.

This Grizzlies team continues to be impressive in all circumstances.

– Despite 36 points of Luka Doncic, the Mavs were not on their plate this night and were surprised in Washington. The Wizards, however freewheeling, offered a small revenge to Kristaps Porzingis (24 pts) against his former team, in particular thanks to the 34 pts of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Karl Anthony Towns and Nikola Jokic fought a big duel last night and he turned to the advantage of the Wolves pivot. The 32 points of “KAT” weighed heavier than the enormous performance of the Joker (38 pts, 19 rbds), but in the end it was the outside address of Anthony Edwards in the money time that tipped the match in favor of Minnesota.

– By dominating Houston despite the 33 points of Jalen Green, Sacramento returned to three Lakers wins. Admit that it would be an additional blow for LA to see Sacramento go ahead on the wire, even if it does not have the slightest real interest, right?
