With Ja Morant, the Grizzlies pulverize the Pelicans

Like many teams before them, the Pelicans took their turn at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.

Boosted by the return of Ja Morant, the Grizzlies were stung by Jaxson Hayes’ overpowering dunk on Steven Adams midway through the first quarter. The response from the locals was not long in coming with a 10-2 powered by two 3-point baskets from Ziaire Williams (30-18).

The winger gave it a layer with two new missiles behind the arc before leaving it to Brandon Clarke to pass a big dunk on the counterattack (32-20). On their way, the Grizzlies then drove the point home through Desmond Bane, at the conclusion of an alley-oop and author of a 3-pointer bringing the mark to 43-26.

To make matters worse, Jonas Valanciunas quickly emerged with his fourth personal foul while Dillon Brooks scored 10 of his team’s last 15 points before the break, including a last-second 3-point basket on a serve from Ja Morant (64-47).

As soon as they returned from the locker room, Memphis continued their demonstration, between Ja Morant’s 2+1 causing the 5and Valanciunas’ personal foul and Desmond Bane’s three 3-point baskets, followed by that of Dillon Brooks to post + 30 to the score (84-54).

On a small cloud, the Grizzlies finished the third quarter flat out with an alley-oop concluded by Ziaire Williams and a final basket at the buzzer by Brandon Clarke (119-80). In a last act in “Showtime” mode, Ja Morant sent Brandon Clarke to the alley-oop before offering himself a monumental counter in front of Larry Nance Jr to finally find the bench (131-90). Even Yves Pons had fun, narrowly missing an alley-oop at high altitude and catching up with a big counter on Jared Harper.

After counting up to 43 points in advance, Taylor Jenkins’ troops thus won their 30th home success of the season with a score of 141 to 114.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– The return of Ja Morant. The medical staff finally authorized Taylor Jenkins to put his leader back in the bath. The objective was to restore his rhythm and the operation was a success as Ja Morant finished with 21 points and 9 assists, showing himself to be more and more comfortable as the match progressed.

– In record mode! When the Grizzlies catch fire, they don’t pretend! This night, they delivered a real recital in the third quarter by sticking 55 points in 12 minutes! It is three small points less than the NBA record sealed by the Buffalo Braves in 1972. The previous franchise record for the number of points scored in a quarter was 46 points until then. They also tied their assist record with 41 and will have the opportunity tonight to set the best record in franchise history, provided they land a 57.and victoire.

TOPS/FLOPS

Dillon Brooks. The collective of Memphis was almost irreproachable. It is therefore difficult to single out a player from the lot. Dillon Brooks, however, finished as his team’s top scorer with 23 points and a heat stroke before the break which helped to put an end to the suspense very quickly.

Brandon Clarke. Among the symbolic players of this team with regard to its permanent commitment and its intensity. Perfect in his role of “energizer” coming off the bench, the interior returned a nice 10/10 in shooting to finish with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists… in 18 minutes.

Jonas Valanciunas. Difficult to do more frustrating since the Lithuanian could only play 6 minutes due to his 5 personal fouls!
